The Solemnity of The Epiphany of the Lord

by Fr. Kilian McCaffrey  |  01/04/2024  |  Pastor's Letter

Epiphany celebrates the revelation that Jesus was the Son of God. It focuses on this great revelation to the Magi, the Three Wise Men.

On this day the Church celebrates the nativity of faith to the Gentile world. God brought the Magi to Christ… through the miraculous star… while a wonderful grace impelled their hearts and invited them to follow the star into another land… and there to adore a new-born King Who was God-Incarnate. The Magi came and adored Our Lord and they received the gift of grace that saintly Catholics have (Servant of God, Mother Mary Teresa Tallon, 1923).

If you have seen The Star of Bethlehem, you will know that Chapter 2 of St. Matthew’s Gospel, verses 1 through 12 tells us about the Visit of the Magi from the East and how:

...they were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the Child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh(Matthew 2: 10-11).

We are the Wise Men and Women. Good and faithful servants. As faithful and generous Christians, living out our call as good stewards, we respond to Christ’s Real Presence here, His miraculous manifestation in the Eucharist with our love, reverence and gratitude.

Stewardship & Evangelization

Yes, Christ is manifesting Himself to us today. We enter God’s house weekly (or daily) and upon entering His house, we are in His Divine Presence. God urging you and to be a Saint: So the big question is: How are you responding to live and practice the promises of your baptismal commitment and witness to our Catholic Faith?

Is meeting Christ in the Mass your top priority each and every week?
When we meet Him, do we give Him homage and show reverence knowing that He is our King?
Do we offer Him your best God-given gifts: your prayer, your time and your treasure?
