The Solemnity of Christ the King
by Fr. Kilian McCaffrey | 11/23/2023 | Pastor's LetterJesus Christ is the Same Yesterday, Today and Forever
We wrap up this Liturgical Year of 2023, as always, with the Solemnity of Christ the King, or as it’s now more formally known The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe In sports terms, this Sunday is our Catholic Super Bowl or Game 7, and we learn about the Final Judgment, the big decider, today. The test of true holiness is how we treat one another. Are you an obedient follower of Jesus, the Good Shepherd: humble, maybe suffering silently, and treating others in our community well? Or are you a wild goat...? To be with God and to be happy with Him forever in Heaven is our Christian destiny.
Our Feast, The Holy Mass Is Fit For Our Lord and King
I ask you today: who is King of your life?
We always begin our week by coming to His Feast, the Holy Mass, which is like a little Easter. At Mass, we are in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Can you imagine? He is really here among us!
Next week, of course, we will begin the new Liturgical Year of 2024 in Jesus’ Holy Name with the First Sunday of Advent. On Sat Dec 2, we will begin our daily Mass at 8:30am, and this will continue each weekday. I challenge you to attend daily Mass for the Holy Season of Advent.
