How Does Jesus Know Us? How Do We Know Jesus?

by Fr. Kilian McCaffrey  |  11/09/2023  |  Pastor's Letter

We get to know Jesus through our practice of living the faith, through the Sacraments. He knows us best through our attendance at Mass, by receiving Him in the Eucharist. What is this oil that is so prized by the wise and the prudent? The oil is faith and it is also what we do with our precious faith: in other words, how do we light up our world by living out our faith.

Deacon Bob will tell you that in Jesus’ time, this Parable was all about honor. Namely, it is about the honor of the two families in the wedding” the Ten Bridesmaids were witnesses to the honor of the family of the bride.

We Honor God By Our Presence At Mass.

Beginning in the Advent Season, we will be adding a second Daily Mass at 8:30AM as we wisely prepare for the birth of Christ the King at Christmas. We will need your help with this new Mass. We remember well Jesus’ words from two weeks ago and we once again we see the link, the continuity, in our readings in how we are to faithfully know, love and serve God with everything we have been given by God.

As Sacristans, Lectors and Ministers of the Body of Christ, we have the opportunity to serve Him. Also, as those faithful ones who attend daily Mass, who watch for Christ and get to know Him intimately in his Body and Blood, this is how we know Him best.

Now is the time to cherish your faith and put it into practice.

Praying For the Holy Souls:

For Catholics, the holy month of November is a special time to put things into perspective; it is the time of the year when we turn our minds to more serious and holy, eternal things.

November is a very holy month, dedicated to prayer, to honor the Saints and to intercede for the holy souls. It is the month when the Mass reminds us that our Lord will come again, that this life is not all that there is and we wisely prepare for Christ the King and Advent.

Who are the wise and prudent ones who we meet in our Gospel today? Like the saints, they are the holy ones who love God with all their hearts, souls and minds while on earth and hope for their Heavenly reward, to living in the house of the Lord for eternity. St. Paul reminds us that “we grieve, but not as the pagans do, but as God’s people of faith and hope in the resurrection of the Lord.

“In keeping with our tradition, we pray for the dead, asking the Lord to raise them up to glory. We entrust the souls of our loved ones to the tender mercies of a God who is always faithful to his promises” (Fr. Daniel Mahan).
